Sensory-Friendly Masses at SJV

Who can benefit from a Sensory Mass?
Everyone.
Sensory-Friendly Masses at St. John Vianney Parish are designed to create a more comfortable and welcoming worship experience for individuals and families who benefit from a calmer environment, including those with autism, sensory sensitivities, developmental disabilities, ADHD, or anxiety.
While the Mass remains the same, the environment is thoughtfully adapted—lighting may be softened, music is gentle, and there is freedom to move or step out as needed. Families are encouraged to participate in whatever way helps them feel at ease.
These Masses are a gift not only to those with sensory needs, but to the entire parish. They remind us that the Church truly belongs to everyone and invite us to grow in patience, compassion, and hospitality.

A sensory-friendly Mass creates a calm, gentle environment that helps individuals with Autism feel welcome and able to participate in worship. Parishioners can show Christ’s love by offering patience, understanding, and warm hospitality.
People with developmental disabilities bring unique gifts to our parish, and a sensory-friendly Mass helps remove barriers to their full participation. We are called to see the person first, offer encouragement, and celebrate every expression of faith.
Those facing mental health challenges may find a sensory-friendly Mass’s slower pace and softer environment especially supportive. Our kindness, respect, and prayers can help them feel safe and valued in our parish family.
A sensory-friendly Mass offers a compassionate space for individuals with memory loss and their caregivers to worship without stress. By welcoming them warmly, we affirm their dignity as beloved children of God.
