Special Needs Youth Ministry
What is Special Needs Youth Ministry?
Special Needs Youth Ministry is a small-group faith community designed to welcome and support participants with a variety of learning, developmental, or physical differences. Rooted in the belief that every person is made in the image of God, this ministry provides an inclusive environment where participants can grow in friendship, prayer, and faith at their own pace. Through hands-on activities, games, and reflection, participants experience God’s love in a setting that honors their unique gifts and needs—while offering families a place of belonging within the parish community.
We follow the Middle School Edge Calendar. Check it out!
What does a typical session look like?
Our Special Needs Youth Ministry meets on Sundays from 3:00–5:00 PM. We begin with snack time at 3:00 PM, which helps everyone settle in and build community before the session starts. Snacks are usually something substantial—like pizza, chips, or hotdogs—to keep us going until dinner! (Please let us know if your participant has any allergies.)
At 3:30 PM, we join the larger middle school group for an opening prayer, followed by a brief Proclaim—a short, engaging presentation that introduces the main faith theme of the day through storytelling, Scripture, or a relatable example.
After the Proclaim, groups break off to “break open” what they’ve just learned. Our special needs community remains together as one group, led by Mrs. Jenny Rupert and a team of caring volunteers who adapt activities and discussions to meet the needs of each participant. We end the session by coming back together with the full youth ministry for a closing prayer.
Parents and guardians, please note: if you feel you need to stay with your participant during the session, you must be Virtus certified for everyone’s safety.
