Holy Orders

Holy Orders

The Sacrament Itself

In the Sacrament of Holy Orders, or Ordination, the priest being ordained, vows to lead other Catholics by bringing them the sacraments (especially the Eucharist) and by proclaiming the Gospel. In this Sacrament the priest is configured to the eternal priesthood of Jesus Christ, responding to a call from God to minister in the work of salvation in a special way through the celebration of the Sacraments.

All of us have something to contribute. It is faith-filled homes that foster vocations. When we encourage our children to discern if they have a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life, we show our support for their desire to serve.

Preparation for this Sacrament

Men interested in receiving the Sacrament of Holy Orders must be accepted by the Diocese or Religious Community that God has called them to serve, and process through a process of formation known as Seminary. During their Seminary formation they will receive an education on the Theology of the Church and instruction in other areas related to their future ministry.

If you feel called to serve the Archdiocese of Atlanta as a Catholic Priest please reach out to the current Vocations Director. Contact info and further information can be found on the Atlanta Vocations website at: calledbychrist.com
