Welcome to High School Youth Ministry
The High School Youth Ministry at St. John Vianney is open to all high school aged youth of the parish. Our goal is to provide the youth opportunities to grow in their faith. We strive to help the youth encounter Christ and have a deeper relationship with Him. Currently, we are meeting virtually on Zoom on Sunday evenings from 6:00 pm to around 7:30 pm (schedule below). There we seek to more fully understand our faith; what is means to be Catholic, how to get more out of mass, and how to be a Christian young adult in the world today. Outside of Sunday classes, we also provide many opportunities for the youth to be involved in the parish (we will when the parish reopens). These include service opportunities, as well as spiritual opportunities. We want the youth to feel that St. John Vianney parish is THEIR parish, a place where they belong.
Next virtual class on Sunday, May 17th.
We are starting a new series this week entitled "Philippians: Joy No Matter What". The goal of the series is to help you find joy no matter what life circumstances you are facing, including the economic, health, and personal issues we all face in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. As always, we will have a fun activity with a prize and a chance to have discussions in small groups.
Details or Meeting ID and password were sent on Flocknote. If you didn't get them and want to attend the class, e-mail Cari Goslow ([email protected]) and a meeting ID will be e-mailed to you.
I'm Bored Challenge
At class on May 10th, a new kind of activity was introduced. Since school is finishing up for people, and they are still more or less sheltering at home, a challenge was given to the youth. They have two weeks to finish as many challenges as they can. The youth who obtains the most points will be declared the winner at class on May 24th. If you were not present at class, but would still like to participate, or if you were unable to get the handout at class, a copy can be obtained from the link below. GOOD LUCK!
The high school youth ministry will continue to have Sunday virtual classes on Zoom at least until the shelter-in-place orders are lifted. Meeting IDs and passwords are sent out on Flocknote. If you are not signed up for Flocknote, use this link to get connected (youth and adults).
High School Youth Retreat
The governor of Georgia has extended the shelter-in-place order until the end of April. Therefore, our retreat, planned for Sunday, April 26th, has been cancelled.
Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School will be taking place this summer from June 7th through June 11th, from 5:45 pm to 8:30 pm each evening.
Volunteer hours for Confirmation students are available for this event.
The Youth Rally was cancelled due to health and safety concerns. Refunds will be given when shelter-at-home orders are lifted and we can again meet at Church. Details will be given as soon as they are arranged.
In February, finished a 4-part series on "The Invitation" about the invitation from Jesus for us to be his followers. The videos are available on Formed under the Youth Programs/YDisciple tab. Below are pictures from the class on February 9th.
Sandwich making for Loving Hands Ministry
The High School youth will be made sandwiches for the homeless on Sunday, February 16th. These sandwiches were delivered the following day to a group of homeless men in Douglasville.
A big THANK YOU to all who came out and helped. We had over 15 youth who made more than 100 sandwiches. Each man at the homeless ministry received a bag with 5 or 6 sandwiches, chips, cookie, brownies, and peanut butter crackers.
