High School Youth Ministry

The High School Youth Ministry at St. John Vianney is open to all high school aged youth of the parish. Our goal is to provide the youth opportunities to grow in their faith. We strive to help the youth encounter Christ and have a deeper relationship with Him. We seek to more fully understand our faith; what is means to be Catholic, how to get more out of mass, and how to be a Christian young adult in the world today. Outside of Sunday classes, we also provide many opportunities for the youth to be involved in the parish. These include service opportunities, as well as spiritual opportunities. We want the youth to feel that St. John Vianney is THEIR parish, a place where they belong.

Plans for the fall are being made; information and schedules will be posted when they are available. Feel free to contact the Youth Ministry office with any questions or suggestions you have.

Please e-mail Cari Goslow ([email protected]) or call the office at 770-941-2807 or the Youth Ministry direct line at 678-981-5231.

Service opportunities:

Sandwich making for Loving Hands Ministry

The High School youth will be making sandwiches for the homeless on Sunday, September 20, 2020 from 3:00pm to 4:00 pm. These sandwiches will be delivered the following day to a group of homeless men in Douglasville. All youth who are interested are welcome to come and help in the kitchen area at church. Masks will be worn, and social distancing will be observed.

If you are not comfortable meeting in person but still want to help, you can make sandwiches at home and bring them to the kitchen before 3:00 on Sunday, September 20. We are also in need of supplies to make the meal for the homeless. This includes bread, peanut butter, jelly, sandwich meat, chips (individual bags), and desserts (individually bagged).

You can sign up to volunteer or bring supplies at the link below. Thank you for your generosity.

Past events:

High School Youth Retreat

The governor of Georgia has extended the shelter-in-place order until the end of April. Therefore, our retreat, planned for Sunday, April 26th, has been cancelled.

I'm Bored Challenge

At class on May 10th, a new kind of activity was introduced. Since school is finishing up for people, and they are still more or less sheltering at home, a challenge was given to the youth. They had two weeks to finish as many challenges as they can. The youth who obtained the most points was declared the winner at class on May 24th.

Youth Rally

The Youth Rally was cancelled due to health and safety concerns. Refunds will be given when shelter-at-home orders are lifted and we can again meet at Church. Details will be given as soon as they are arranged.

The Invitation

In February, finished a 4-part series on "The Invitation" about the invitation from Jesus for us to be his followers. The videos are available on Formed under the Youth Programs/YDisciple tab. Below are pictures from the class on February 9th.

Sandwich making for Loving Hands Ministry

The High School youth made sandwiches for the homeless on Sunday, February 16th. These sandwiches were delivered the following day to a group of homeless men in Douglasville.

A big THANK YOU to all who came out and helped. We had over 15 youth who made more than 100 sandwiches. Each man at the homeless ministry received a bag with 5 or 6 sandwiches, chips, cookie, brownies, and peanut butter crackers.
