Confirmation

Welcome to the

St. John Vianney Confirmation Program

The Confirmation program at St. John Vianney is a one year program for High School aged students that runs from Fall 2021 to Fall 2022.

Youth entering the program must be turning 16 before September 1, 2022.

Registration has already closed this year. No new students will be admitted to the program.

If you are unsure if your child is registered for the program, please contact Cari Goslow at [email protected]

There was a mandatory parent/student meeting on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 3 pm. There were two follow-up meetings for those who did not attend the Sept. 12 meeting on September 19 and September 26. If the student and at least one parent did not attend one of these meetings, the student will be removed from the program for this year. They can register in the spring for next year's program.

The Program

The Confirmation program consists of five parts.

The first part is participation in the Sunday night Youth Ministry program. This program welcomes all High School youth (including Confirmation students) to provide the youth opportunities to grow in their faith. We strive to help the youth encounter Christ and have a deeper relationship with Him. Confirmation students are required to attend all Youth Ministry meetings from October to May. See here for more information about the High School Youth Ministry program.

The second part of the program are the Confirmation catechesis classes. For this portion of the program, we use a program from Ascension Press entitled 'Chosen'. This part is just for those students preparing for Confirmation. These classes will start in October, 2021.

The third part of the program is two retreats. The students will go on an overnight retreat in the spring and to a one-day retreat in the fall. Both are necessary for the completion of the program.

The fourth part of the program is Mass attendance. All Confirmation students are required to attend Mass every Sunday (or Saturday) and check in with the priest to verify their attendance. The Eucharist is the source and the summit of our faith and all other sacraments point to it. To be confirmed, students must participate in this important facet of their faith.

The fifth part of the program is service. All Confirmation students will be required to participate in several different service activities throughout the year. Completion of the appropriate number of hours is necessary to be Confirmed.
